I am an average novice bike rider. I want to know what I need to do to start training and eventually compete in mountain bike races. What kind of training and diet regiment should I follow? What kind of bike and helmet should I get? How do I even get into a race? I am looking for anyone who has experience in the sport who might be able to help an upstart wannabe racer make his dreams come true.

    Hey Everyone

On the 18th December I will be doing my very 1st mountain bike race. The race will be 35km. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for me?

Like, what should I wear as it will be cold, what to pack in my bag, what rate shall I cycle at. Things like that.

    Thanks to all who answer

  • John  says:

I am getting into mountain bike racing this year for the first time. I am a cat 4 on the road and use clip less pedals there. I have an extra set of old school Shimano road pedals that I could use but am wondering if there is a big difference between road and mountain pedals. Are they easier to get out of, and how much are they really needed in Cat 3 mountain bike racing? Does everyone use them?

  • Death Knight  says:

I am doing a bike race this weekend. I am not sure the distance, but it is about a 45 minute race. I only own a mountain bike, but my friend has a road bike I could borrow (I’m just afraid to crash it or something). How different are the two and what do you suggest I do? Thanks!
I am only 13 years old. This is my first race. I am racing against 12-14 year olds. I know that they are different, but my question is: are they different enough that it will make a difference to me?

  • kass9191  says:

It says do you want to restore your bikes on the bike race game app. What does that mean? Does it mean you get your money back for any bikes you have bought?

  • toast  says:

After the bike racing season I develop chest pains about a Month after stopping from riding. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same symptoms and your prognosis?
side note: Yes, I’ve seen Doctor and all says it’s probably stress. However wasn’t sure in the bicycling community, if a certain population exists with these similar symptoms.

  • Erin  says:

I am interested in getting into sports bike racing but I am not quite sure where to start. The only type of motorcycle that I have ridden are dirt bikes and I have not done that very much. I don’t expect to be able to race in the motoGP (even though i wish i could), but what does it require to get started? Also can I use a stock bike or will I need to put a lot of money into upgrades?

  • uberfailz  says:

I cant afford a good dirt bike to race motocross. I do have experience in racing motocross though. Do you think any shops would do that?

  • Cupcakerum  says:

There was a 70 mile bike race going on near me recently, and I have always been interested in biking, so – just out of curiosity – what type of bike are the racers using. I know they are very thin and light weight, but I don’t actually know the exact name of them. Also, what would be a reasonable (if not fairly cheap) price to pay for a new bike used for racing?

  • Joey 01  says:

My friend and I want to play bike race against each other (the app) by using game center instead of Facebook. We are logged onto our Game Center accounts and we are Game Center friends but we can’t find each other on bike race. Help?
Yeah but is there a way to do it without Facebook and just game center?

I have dirt bikes races almost every weekend and once I start racing I get really hot and my stomach starts hurting. I get hot because of the gear I have on, but I’m pretty sure my stomach starts hurting because of what I eat and drink. So what should I eat before the race and what should I drink before and during the race? Thanks(:

I send her a game last night and woke up this morning, saw that I had a new game from her, but went back to bed and decided I would play back later. Now I went to my game a refreshed a bunch of times, but I cannot find her! She is completely gone from friends list and I have no idea what happened. • Ed D  says:

I used to play this game in video arcades (year was 1998 to 2000). The machine is for up to two players, has two video screens, two bikes that enable the players to control their chosen character in the game. The game is a downhill bike race. At some point you have to pedal, sometimes apply the brakes and most of the time steer through the course by turning the handlebars and leaning the bike from side to side.

It was a great game during its time. It combined digital and real action in an interactive and fun video game. Can somebody please tell me what this game was called? And if you know or still see these machines in good operating condition. Please tell me where to find one. Thanks!

  • Jeff  says:

In the developer’s ending, one of the guys says “Beat the score of 2110 in the bike race with Johnny,” or something to that effect. Having been unable to perform this feat myself, and having found no reference to anybody having done so, I find myself curious as to what happens. I know that you need to stay in front of him the entire time and use your three boosts perfectly off a bounce. The closest I’ve come is 2001.

Has anybody done it? And what happened if you did?

  • Joe T  says:

  • wwwavid360gamercom  says:

The apps that I want such as cloud browse and Bike Race Pro that normally cost money, I cannot find in Cydia. My friend told me to get some AppCake thing, which I did but it is an iphone thing and when I went on it originally, whenever I tried to search for something no keypad came up so I couldn’t. Now appcake won’t even open. Help?

I’ve been interested all my life in starting mx racing but having the lack of money and a mother who wouldn’t let me as a kid kind of stopped me cold. I’ve been doing some research on bikes and what-not but just overly curious as there is a lack of information on what age someone can go pro at. I’m a very competitive person and would no doubt be aggressive on the track. I’m just curious if I would even have a shot?

  • apleaforbrandon  says:

I am a regular mountain biker, but like to road-ride, too. However, my full-suspension is way too much drama for the pavement and even my hardtail is too heavy for efficient road travel. I want something lighter and better suited. The problem is, I am not super fond of the “feel” of road bikes. I saw that Trek (my fave) had “fitness” bikes and “urban” bikes and I am wondering if anyone can tell me what are the advantages/disadvantages to choosing a fitness or urban bike over a road bike?

    THANKS! :)
Just to add, a fitness bike is not a stationary bike. It is an actual style of bicycle like urban, road, mountain, triathalon, etc. I was just hoping that someone had some info on what might be better suited for me. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Seems like Fixie is getting more popular these days. What are the common usages of a fixie? Is it mainly for local commuting? Are there anyone use it for longer trips (> 30 miles)? If you already have a good road bike, will you add a fixie to your collection? Does it help your training?

The buzz lately is that you can burn about 500 calories, tone up and lose weight quickly by exercising for only 30 minutes on a spinning bike.

I have a regular exercise bike and cannot afford a spinning bike or classes. Would I be able to achieve the same results by exercising for 30 minutes a day on my exercise bike?

I just bought my first road racer. After years of riding mountain bikes and just hanging them upside down (by the wheels) from the ceiling (with no apparent bad effect), I was wondering if there is any reason I shouldn’t do this with my racing bike. It has Mavic open pro rims, a steel frame, and the whole thing weighs about 18lbs.

Will I do any damage to the bike by storing it in the same manner as my mountain bikes?

  • Gundown64  says:

As the title states, is 22 too old to get into racing motocross at a pro level? I know that it will take a lot of work but I am willing to put forth whatever effort I can to make it happen. I know there are a lot of pros that are quite a bit older but is age a real big defining factor?

My uncle just gave me my first carbon fiber road bike. It’s a Tommaso Aggraziato. I want to understand more fully how to take care of it and what it’s limits are since any fixes with expensive things seem to run pretty high. I had just adjusted the brakes and went out to test them, and they worked so well that I accidentally did a little stoppie, came off the seat, and landed on the cross bar when I hit the front brake. There’s no sign on the exterior of cracks or anything, but could something like that hurt the bike? Is carbon fiber a relatively tough material? To the touch it feels pretty much like plastic, but I’ve heard from a few people that it’s pretty strong. Is that true?

What are the steps to becoming pro?

Do I have to register with some organization?

    How long will it take?

I was thinking about Ben Spies this morning and the fact that he will be racing in the GP and AMA on Sunday, and was wondering if there was anyway a person who lives in the UK would be able to watch the superbike races as well as the GP?

If anyone knows of any sites that have live streaming or even live audio coverage, I would appreciate your posting it here.

    Thank you sooooo much.

I’m 16 years old and I looove mountain biking. I do track, so I have a lot of endurance and I have good muscles from gymnastics, which will help me a lot with my biking. I bike a lot but I just do it for fun– I’d really like to compete in a race, but I’ve never done a biking race before. How can I start? Where can I find a local race? How do I figure out what ability level I should enter in? I know track helps a lot with training for biking, but what else can I do? We also weight train a lot–which is good because I don’t do gymnastics anymore. Any answers are greatly appreciated :) :)
