My cousin and I are going to college in Rock Island City. We want to live in an apartment instead of a dorm, but the apartments in the city are WAY to expensive for us. So are they’re any cities, or small towns within 10 miles of Rock Island with cheaper real estate?

    Thanks!

A lot of people have all negative things to say about the Bronx. Most of these people have never even been there. They go by what they hear on television and what they read in the newspaper. In actuality, it has a lot of diversity and contrasts: culturally and socioeconomically. The very rich live in Riverdale and the very poor live in the South Bronx. Even the landscape varies. City Island has a small town feel whereas other areas are very urban. What do you think about the Bronx?

Do you appreciate it or are you someone who thinks anything north of 96th St. is dangerous?
    Thanks Nicki. Very true.
Yeah, the Bronx has transformed itself.

I’m planning to tour Melbourne city – Philip Island – Mornington Peninsula. I have done some research, found that I can drive easily to Philip Island. And I realise that I also need a car to move around within Philip Island. “Problem” is, I do not know if its possible to drive across to Mornington? Or is there a place in Philip Island for me to return my car, then take the ferry over to Mornington, then rent another car to move around in Mornington?

  • David  says:

City Island staring Andy Garcia, Allan Arkan and Emily Mortimer. Rated: PG-13 for sexual content, smoking and language.

The Yellow Hankerchief staring Marria Bello and Kristen Stewart. Rated: PG-13 for sexual content, some violence, language and thematic elements.

Because both have rating, I expect them out sometime in 2010. What do YOU think?

As far as treacherous currents, uncharted reefs, dangerous shoals, unmarked wrecks and channels, etc. I don’t mean on land, like cities or islands.

  • Kevin  says:

I have travelled alot and it seems that this is quite common abroad. Why is that?

In Stockholm (and in all Swedish cities) it’s the exact opposite. The wealthy live in the city core of the major cities (primarily Stockholm and Göteborg). However, there are some very wealthy suburbs just north/northeast of Stockholm (Djursholm, Saltsjöbaden, Danderyd, Lidingö).

Obviously there are also alot of “normal middle class suburb areas” as well, but many of the areas outside of the city centre are poor. There are alot of suburbs like Rinkeby, Tensta, Husby, Norsborg, Fittja, Rågsved etc etc where 95 – 99 % are immigrants, and both criminality and unemployment is sky high.

We sold our 170 square meter house in a normal “middle class ethnic Swedish suburb” and got 7 million SEK for it. Longing for the city centre we bought ourselves a flat which ended up costing 7.5 million SEK – for 123 square meter, and that is at the very edge of the city, just before the bridges that connect the city islands with the suburbs. If we would buy an apartment of the same size in the more expensive areas it would probably have been about 9-10 million SEK.

I want a GOOD beach city (Paradise Island EP) so my sims can still complete their lifetime wish, BUT I want a downtown area filled with highrises, like the ones from Bridgeport (Nightlife EP). Does anyone know of one? I keep googling it, but all I get is crappy beach cities with no Paradise Island stuff in them. I need diving areas, like mermaids grotto, docking ports, and highrises.

I’m going to Thailand in a month starting in mid-January. I’m not an outdoorsy type. So, not a lot of camping or walks in forests. Most of my time will be spent in cities enjoying the nightlife or going to various beaches. I will be traveling between cities, islands, and beaches. Not like I’m staying in Bangkok the whole.

What bag is best for me?

  • Ray D  says:

I’d love to work with horses as a volunteer. I like all that’s involved: currying horses, feeding them, mucking out stalls, maintaining equipment, and riding. I consider New York City, Long Island and parts of New Jersey near Jersey City to be local.

I am not planning on renting a car due to budget so anything within walking distance is great. Also with access to all types of activities (biking, atv, snorkeling, jet skiing, luaus, food, cool towns, etc). Thanks! Your help is much appreciated.

tell me about the best beaches, cities, islands, sightseeing, clubs, shows, and other fun things to do!

which city or island is the most and least filled with tourists?

…..and my last question, which i might even ask as its own question if no one answers it here, is if a non-hawaiian person visited hawaii and spoke either hawaiian or pidgin to the local hawaiians, would they get made fun of? or be seen as disrespectful if they didnt have the right accent or messed up a word?

    THANKS!

  • Cole  says:

Consider the islands that we are well aware of (Manhattan, Staten, Long, Randalls/Wards, Roosevelt, City, Hart, Governor’s, etc.). But there are others, either inhabited or not, in the City/Hart Island areas, in the Rikers’ Island area, possibly in the Jamaica bay area (not including the marshes, other than the marsh area housing Broad Channel). Also, I beleive Liberty Island is actually in New Jersey waters and Coney Island is more of a penisula than an island.

  • gail C  says:

I am a bit confused on what mta.info said

From the homepage ” All commuter rail, bus and subway service is fare free until midnight. Access-A-Ride service is also fare free and operating regular service, both advanced reservation and subscription will be delivered, with the exception of areas in Zone A, including the Rockaways, City Island, Lower Manhattan and Staten Island.”

Does that mean public transportation is still free tomorrow in Staten island?

  • Jeff  says:

  • baldy eire  says:

I don’t even know if that makes any sense. I’m not sure whether or not it’s futuristic-looking. Might be. I think it’s just some city, not an island, and part of it extends over a huge body of water, on top of docks or stilts or something. I don’t remember. It’s just bothering me because I can’t for the LIFE of me remember the name of it. And NO, it’s not Venice, to save you the effort. It’s some sort of exotic name, I think.

    Thanks a bunch!!

And the left said Bush had crooks. Obama can’t even seat a cabinet.

President Obama’s new urban czar renovated his Bronx home with help from the architect on a major development that needed his approval, a Daily News investigation has found. Adolfo Carrión, who last week left his job as Bronx borough president to be director of the White House Office on Urban Policy, hired the architect to design a renovation of his Victorian two-family on City Island.

I have noticed that many major cities and islands in Greece and Cyprus have anglicised versions. For example:
    Athens instead of Athina
    Salonica instead of Thessaloniki
    Nicosia instead of Lefkosia
    Famagusta instead of Ammochostos
    Corfu instead of Kerkyra
    Crete instead of Kriti

The list is endless. Why didn’t they just call the capital ‘Athina’ instead of changing it to ‘Athens’?

Since I live in North Carolina, my mom and I are flying to New York and we’re planning to stay for 2 nights. We can’t stay anywhere too expensive, obviously, and we’re looking for somewhere IN New York City, since we heard transportation was hard if we stayed in Jersey City or Long Island or somewhere like that. Does annyone know of anywhere like under $400 that’s in the city?

My boyfriend is really interested in science so I was thinking that for his Christmas present this year, I would take him to a science museum. All of the museums in the New York City/Long Island area seem to be centered around kids, except for the Bodies Exhibit, which he’s been to several times already. Is there any other place I could take him to?

    Thanks!

Lets say you have enough money to live your dream life, mansion, yacht, couple of Bugattis in the driveway, BUT you could only stay in one country/city for the rest of your life. No moving, no acquiring assets or properties in other countries just have to remain stationary.

You get 2 weeks to leave your country every 6 months (just like your current typical vacation) just so that you can sightsee and sample nightlife etc.

What City/Country/island etc. would you choose and why?
