I use a GalaxySII android phone and put all my appointments on my phone’s calendar. I updated my first generation iPad to IOS5 last week. This morning, I noticed that all my android phone calendar items are now on my iPad calendar. I do not think I did any ‘sync’ set ups between my phone and iPad (maybe I did something inadvertently). Does anyone know how this sync happened? I don’t mind it, just wondering how it works. Thanks for your help!

When you provide someone with internet links, encyclopedia articles, and solid facts that support a certain political, social or philosophical statement, and the other person chooses instead to qualify your arguments as “left wing lies”, “propaganda”, or “biased”, without actually refuting your claims or showing evidence to the contrary, are they being close-minded?
Consider that I usually back up my statements with reliable, neutral encyclopedias (like wikipedia), or from scientific websites or at least websites from different parts of the ideological spectrum.
Why are there still some people that choose to ignore facts?
What is it that causes people to methaphorically “cover their ears”, and ignore solid facts and scientific data such as evolution, global warming, Disney child labour in Haiti, US support torwards dictatorships and terrorist groups such as the Nicaraguan “Contras”, shady and corrupt bussiness associations in several countries’ leaderships, etcetera?
What causes people to reject the possibility of embracing other ideas and thought patterns?
I’m always willing to listen and accept opposing views, as long as they are properly fundamented.
Why aren’t others willing to do this as well?

I think that if you are planning to have a serious political or social opinion and to act upon it, you need to know how to fundament it and back it up first.

Did our “common ancestors” have an immortal soul?

If you say they didn’t, I’m sure that even the “usual suspects” here will be smart enough to realize that no matter how you phrase it, (usually full of sophistry) it is contra-Christianity because we believe that we possess an immortal soul. By espousing evolution, you are, conciously, or by default, seeking to overturn Christianity in favor of a your no-God belief. This is what Christians need to understand.
    Tawaen,

Is that the best you can do when your agenda is clearly exposed. The Christians on here will understand this argument before I finish.Prepare for more disappointment my strawman friend!

  • forahobby  says:

A friend of mine started believing in religion hardcore, and she wanted to know why I think there are contradictions in the bible. I believe that evolution exists and she does not. These kinds of people think what the bible says is right and anything else is wrong. She said, “Animals never evolved, they adapted. we don’t believe in evolution. the bible is God’s Word. PERIOD. We didn’t evolve either. i wasn’t a monkey. in Genesis, chapter 6, God wiped out the world with a great flood. of course things are different. don’t be silly. can’t believe in God and not the bible. when the bible is the words of God.” then she threw another bible quote at me that just clarifies exactly what she said.
She said “animals adapted.” Evolution by definition, is when something changes after successive generations, so does adaptation. She contradicts herself in that case.
The bible controls their lives and they worship someone, which is envy. Just throwing that out there. I don’t care what they believe, but I like Jesus and stuff, but the people just need to get their facts right. There are no scientists on their side. There are no people that were there to witness what is said in the bible. 90% of the bible is technically not the “word of god” only the red lines are, another point. God didnt write the bible either.

  • happyha31  says:

Okay so I believe that the world could have been made by either evolution OR creationism. Some of the stories of the Bible are parables used to teach. What if Adam and Eve was a parable to explain what He did, He created life. If this is so, then maybe He used evolution as his tool to create the world. Thus, the world was created by either evolution or creationism, both by the power of God.
So, earlier someone was asking about women having more ribs then men since according to Adam and Eve God made Eve out of Adam’s rib. (I believe we have the same amount, isn’t it scientifically proven?) Anyways, since we both have 12 ribs, that could show how Adam and Eve really is a parable. Or, of course, it could just mean that Adam had a spare rib (no pun intended) and man and woman both ended up with twelve after it was all said and done. So…what do you think? Am I crazy? Am I really really smart? Am I some other adjective?

  • tefa_96  says:

Did you know that if you’re sitting straight up (like we do on a chair) when pooping, that ur doing it wrong? Ur actually evolved to squat. Did u know that walking heel-toe is wrong? Its bad for ur back. Did u know that its normal to wake up in the middle of the night? I have a feeling that everything being ‘civilized’ stands for is actually bad for us, and the planet. Think about it, we cut the grass dogmatically, who knows what an impact thats having. Thoughts? All our asthetics are contra to our evolution.

  • Smashing Pumpkins  says:

I just received an iPhone 5 for my birthday and want some good apps to download. I have an iPad full of apps but most are iPad apps and are games and it’s a second generation so does not support iOS 6 so any new apps would be great!

  • Jerosh Nagulachandran  says:

I’m giving another shot at this. And don’t make any assumptions about my beliefs. Christians and theists, if you think I should be “saved”, I’d be glad to be enlightened.

Let’s say evolution was proven wrong. Would you really start to believe in creationism? There is no rational justification to believe in it (so far I haven’t heard any). It is absurd. It is like saying 2 + 2 = 5 because we proved that 2+2 doesn’t equal 6 and we can’t think of any other good answers so we’ll say it’s 5. Until 5 is proven, or at least has any logical support, why should we assume that 5 is right.
Yeah, the Greeks thought Zues was real because they couldn’t explain thunder. You know what we call that now? Mythology. Do you not realize by believing in creationism, you are doing the same thing?

And then every answer I hear is “God works in mysterious ways” I could say that a fairy exists, is right next to me, and works in mysterious ways. That’s how foolish and childish faith is.

So now I give all you Christians/theists the chance to give me one rational justification in why you believe in creationism and God. If you back it up with a Bible, you are foolish. And if you are a report monkey, all you’ll be doing is supporting evolution by showing that you haven’t evolved from the common ancestor of humans and monkeys. You also show that you are so weak that you can’t even challenge your beliefs.
27 minutes ago – 4 days left to answer.

    Additional Details
I said your weak if you can’t challenge your beliefs, not if you don’t share the same as mine. You read it wrong. Stop complaining.

I say it is foolish to believe in the Bible because the Bible contradicts itself therefore it lies. It says things such as God loves ALL, but yet hates Esus. That’s one example, not sure if it’s accurate, but I’ve looked at a Bible myself and seen so many examples. If someone lies about one thing, why would you believe other things he says

I’m not trying to prove there is no God. I don’t “believe there is no God” The intention of this question is see if anyone has any rational justification to believe in God. “So now I give all you Christians/theists the chance to give me one rational justification in why you believe in creationism and God.” You are a poor analyzer if you thought I was trying to prove there is no God. You don’t need evidence to reject the belief of God just like you don’t need evidence to reject the belief of the lochness monster.

And another “i cant believe evolution could bring us where we are today so it must of been God” That’s not rational. that’s personal preference of having faith. First of all, I don’t even believe in the evolution theory. Second of all, just because YOU can’t explain it, does not mean that it will never be explained. you choose to accept an absurd explanation just because none of the others have been proven. Have you forgot that yours has no more evidence or proof.

It seems like many of you assume that I believe in evolution when I never said I did. let me clarify. I DONT BELIEVE IN THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION.
No I don’t believe in the “overwhelming” evidence because I have not seen it for myself. I have not researched evolution enough to accept it. Therefore, I reject it. I do claim that evolution didn’t happen.

And no, I won’t believe in the evolution theory just because people tell me there is overwhelming evidence.
^It says “I do claim that evolution didn’t happen”. I mean’t to write that I do NOT claim that evolution didn’t happen.

Einstein’s Theory of Relativity is a theory, yet it’s widely accepted as a scientific truth because it’s supported by fact and believable evidence. Darwin’s Theory of Evolution is also a theory that’s supported by scientific assumption and plausible evidence. Given these two examples, why do the majority of Bush followers refuse to accept the fact-based theory and compelling evidence to support the premise that President Bush invaded Iraq to ensure that the major oil corporations reaped the benefits of controlling Iraq’s oil?

  • nick s  says:

I fully accept that publication of “Origin of Species” finally broke the stranglehold religion maintained over the freedom of thought necessary for modern science to evolve.
Whenever I point out on YA that Charles Darwin’s paper doesn’t meet the requirements of modern science I get loads of thumbs down & very angry responses.
Science requires theories to come from the unbiased examination & review of all evidence & to be subject to future modification in the light of evidence. We know that the theory of evolution predated Charles Darwin by at least 2 generations, his grandfather Erasmus Darwin being a famous exponent of the theory. Also in Charles’s own days Huxley was a great exponent, but lacked any publishable evidence for the theory for many years after Charles’s voyage on the Beagle. Charles himself didn’t publish until it became clear Huxley was going to advance a paper, apparently with weaker evidence. Afterwards Huxley became the main populariser of the theory of evolution as “proven”, a claim Charles Darwin never made.
So as theory predated evidence it doesn’t meet the demands of unbiased scrutiny required of modern science, where theory must be based on evidence & not vice versa.
Also we know now that the variations Darwin observed in Galapagos are within the species, not new species. No proven “missing link” required by evolution has ever been found. Today we see loss of species at an unprecedented rate, where evolution would theorise the exact opposite.
Science has advanced to such a degree that we know many of Darwin’s conclusions to be erroneous. Nevertheless it seems that many people refuse even to allow proper scientific questioning & debate of the theory as if it were some sort of Holy Grail without which all science would be lost.
As far as I’m concerned, creationism is similarly untrue.
Pointing out currently known weaknesses in Darwin’s paper brings worse than religious wrath from pro-Darwin zealots.
What are they really afraid of?

Dawn of the X-Men? MUTANTS swarm AMONG US, say geneticists

    Particularly among weirdo Europeans
By Lewis Page • Get more from this author

Posted in Science, 29th November 2012 15:19 GMT
    F
Humanity has entered a new genetic era, according to a newly published study, with well over half the mutations found having occurred “recently”. Potentially troublesome genetic changes are particularly common among those of European heritage compared to those with African forebears, the research shows.

“The recent dramatic increase in human population size, resulting in a deluge of rare functionally important variation, has important implications for understanding and predicting current and future patterns of human disease and evolution,” write the authors of the new report, published in hefty boffinry mag Nature.

The study involved gene sequencing carried out on 6,500 Americans of both African and European heritage. Some 73 per cent of the rare (occurring in less than 0.1 per cent of the sample) variations had occurred during the last 5,000 years.

Mutations – genetic variations – sometimes result in improvements (or specialisations) to a human or group of humans, as with the Europeans as they moved out of Africa and became more pale-skinned to cope with the lack of sunlight. X-Men style mutations conferring the ability to shoot frikkin’ lazor beams out of one’s eyes aren’t possible, but things like skin colour, resistance to diseases etc are.

Unfortunately a mutation is more likely to present a problem than an enhancement, and the human race in general is particularly full of them lately because of our massive population explosion over the last 5,000-odd years. Mutations are introduced in each new child (particularly if he or she has an older dad), so populations expanding fast from a small base naturally create more of them.

The relatively small group of mutant Africans who moved north into Europe have subsequently expanded in population particularly enormously, and as a result people of such stock are especially loaded with rare genetic variations.

“One of the most interesting points is that Europeans have more new deleterious (potentially disease-causing) mutations than Africans,” says Dr. Suzanne Leal, professor of molecular and human genetics, one of the boffins who participated in the study.

Over the long previous history of humanity, bad mutations (or contra-reproduction ones, anyway) would be scrubbed away by people dying before they had a chance to have kids. But this is a slow process, and it has probably been slowed down even more by modern developments like buildings, farming, medicine etc, even as the rate of mutation has shot up massively.

So humanity is especially riddled with mutants (or mutier-than-normal people: everyone carries at least some mutations compared to their parents), and set to get more so. This could mean health problems – but it could also mean the future appearance of people who are truly unusual in a good (or very strange) way.

Not X-Men, in all likelihood, but perhaps something just as startling.

Wikipedia defines :Reality: as the state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or might be imagined”. If this is so how do we agree on what is reality since we all experience our own realities, don’t we not?
Thank you for the thoughtful answers. Most of you seam to say that we can’t agree or that is not necessary. If this is so wars are really inevitable as well as all kind of misunderstandings even with our own partners! Is what is getting on the way of reaching a common understanding on what reality is our belief system?

I’m simply curious as to whether there is a theory of how the merged chromosome #2 with embedded telomeres might be a survival advantage for which evolution may have selected.

Or is it assumed that the merger was simply something which happened and is neither advantageous or disadvantageous.

Considering how chromosome #2 constitutes something like 8% of all DNA coding, I wondered if having certainly kinds of genetic code on such a big chromosome (with perhaps the extra security of both terminal telomeres AND and internal extra/vestigial “anchor points”) might have some sort of payoff for survival.

In my opinion, Creationists need to address these issues…….but in the meantime I’d simply be interested in whether anyone knows if similar “mergers” have been found in other groups of similar species and if there have been any breakthroughs explaining why/how these things happen.

Yes, I may try posting in the biology section sometime but I’ve found that each forum has its own pros/cons.

SAB: I checked out the link you gave but found no mention of chromosome #2 issues there (just a fairly basic introduction to general topics). Do you have a more specific URL? or perhaps there was a typo in your weblink? But thanks for your help.

WHY AND HOW DO PEOPLE DEVELOP DEEPLY HELD OPINIONS AND BELEIFS AND WHY THEY ARE SO UNSHAKABLE AT FIRST TO CHANGE THEIR OPINIONS?

I don’t think Americans are bad as a whole but they live in a bubble they only know their own history and disregard the rest of the world as being so far behind them but when you think about it how were disputes settled a thousand years ago… oh yeah one country would invade the other kill off their people and take their resources.. Most Countries use more of a diplomatic approach now but evolution seems to be forgetting all those yanks.. America and North Korea are so similar both have no idea the outlook the rest of the world has of them.. it’s sad but even more scary..

  • stingerms  says:

Mindless, biological-evolution has, until now, been driven by a continuous process that randomly selects the best candidates for the survival of a species. Until now, Mother Nature (MN: the blind watch-maker) has ruled over this process.

Recently, however, MN has, in her mindless meanderings, produced an object known as CONSCIOUSNESS. This object has now replaced the Blind Watch-maker as the driver behind the evolutionary process, which is no longer blind but rather guided by the forces of `intelligence’. This new direction in the evolutionary process represents an historic crossroads for the destiny of the human race.

There are numerous examples where intelligence-driven evolutionary-processes have succeeded, not only in replacing MN but with far more efficacy:

MN waits for a major portion of the population to die-off from the plague, for example, while selecting for survival those who have a random, contra, genetic-disposition; but modern medicine now inoculates the entire population; and physics has extended our five senses into the realm of the microscopic and the macroscopic; and conscious-driven evolution now creates synthetic-life forms and silicon-based intelligence…without any help from MN.

After four billion years of mindless, MN driven evolution, which finally produced a `conscious object’, Intelligent-driven evolution has taken over these processes.

In the last fifty years, Intelligence-driven evolution has accomplished more than MN has in the last four billion years.

The Conscious-object known as man, in a sense, has become God. Where will these conscious-driven, evolutionary processes take us? THAT is the question! (Sisyphus! What do you say?)

  • Jon P  says:

does the theory of evolution address how the different genders came to be at all? if you answer this saying yes, give me your evidence. :D
I dont think anyone understands my question. The theory of evolution states that living things come from a common ancestor. and so then questions came up saying okay then what was the first living thing and it is supposedly some kind of micro-organism. Which evolved and evolved into more and more things. Im wondering how evolutionists claim how the different genders came to be, this whole theory explains nothing but ideas that are so outrageous i dont even understand how people believe in this but not God. Yea so how does the theory of evolution explain how different sexes appeared first in animals and in humans?

I am open to hearing the arguments of both sides. However, looking at the comments on the following article:
    http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com/index.php?fuseaction=wanappln.commentview&comment_id=158
I must say that in most cases, the opposing ones reduce to personal attacks on its author without any contra-evidence at all. What facts would you use to convince others of the official story?
NB: Offensive answers will be reported.
charcinders: you get a TU. But I have to disagree with the very first sentence,
“The burden of proof is not on the people who accept the “official story”, it is on the people who do not. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.”
Well, this is true in normal conditions, but not in this extereme case where the claim is used as a reason to start a war. In a civilised world, war is the very last resort and one needs 100% unattackable proof that it was inevitable.
Frst Grade Rocks: thank you for your answer, too. Your 5) gave me something to think about, but no, I think that one can’t melt steel in a normal fire (without coal and its relatives), just forge it. Call it a speculation but I doubt that they stored coke in the offices.
About the orange glow, I understood it from the context that they meant aluminium at its melting point compared to iron / steel at their respective melting points.
    The other points are good!
Thank you all for your answers! I will keep them on my mind. I am sincerely sorry for those of you who had to witness this case, or any other disaster.

I’m going to put this question on vote so that anyone can help me pick the best answer. I’ll leave a few hours for your possible last edits.

Why do they change their story when part of it is proven to be false? This time I’m proving links so I won’t get a million “THE BIBLE HASN’T BEEN PROVEN WRONG LOLOLOLOL” answers this time.
